It was so awesome to see our teachers so fired up and excited. I predict web 2.0 tools will be a large component of their next set of lesson plans, what do you bet? Then I predict it will spread throughout the district.
It is the era when people have come to realize that it's not the software that enables the web that matters so much as the services that are delivered over the web. Rich Internet Applications, or RIA, bring the Internet "alive" and allows collaboration between teacher and students and students and students. In a nutshell, web 2.0 applications are interactive apps. Just think about this for a second. Applications that allow your students to interact with you online.... Hey.... Wouldn't it be cool if you could post a topic on a blog and have the students respond to it? Or, post a research topic on a Wiki and have students collaborate online and add to that Wiki. Hmmmm.... Teaching kids in a medium they know and love and excel! Imagine bringing this richness to your classroom for greater learning experiences. Instead of writing papers and journals, have students post a blog, and more Wow! How cool is this?
Look for WEB 2.0 apps being utilized in classrooms by Julien and Mary at the High School, Teresa, Michelle, JaneE, Celya, and Misti at the Middle School, Omar and Gail at Intermediate, and Collette at Alamo. Also look for online collaboration from Debbie at the Curriculum Department, and Brenda and myself at Technology!
Coming Soon: Trainings will be offered to anyone wanting to take advantage of these free online services. These trainings will offer integration ideas for you and your students. It's easy and quick!

This is a great article...I'll be in the tutorials! Again, thanks for the opportunity to start my interest (in all this "techie" stuff). I never knew how much I never knew about the options available to teachers and students via web tools.
I heard the conference was GREAT. Maybe next year, if it is a month before the TAKS test again, I will be able to attend.
I am looking forward to seeing what all you have brought back from the conference.
Have a Blessed Day,
Pam
I'm ready!! I've just set up my school blog. "Techno or Bust" I'm ready to get my kids set up.
Isn't this exciting??? Now, we are creating LOTS of challenges for Debra. Maybe the rest of you are better than me (acutally, there is no maybe to it...you are all more technology literate than I am), but I will certainly be job security for Debra as she pushes me into this new world.
This is great. I haven't really tried to start a blog yet, but I am working on a wiki. I'll let you know when it is finished. Let me know when they trainings are .
the trainings not they trainings
my blog is http://themudgereport.blogspot.com
Oh the pressure of equally handing out prizes from TCEA. The first "Alamoian" to read and respond to this blog thread will recieve a highly anticipated door prize from the convention. I will be checking this blog and then contacting the winner. This does not include Pam as she has already responded. Collette
Hey Collette what is the prize??
Let me know when training starts.
Did I win Ms. Barragan?
Renee,
It doesn't matter what the prize is. If you don't want it I'll go get another.
Pam
I wasn't at the conference, but I'm onboard. I know the high school kids will love this! It's good college prep for my juniors and seniors - they will undoubtedly have a class that uses Blackboard, WebCT, or some other type of online interaction for learning.
TCEA Discover Your Destination 2008 Convention was great! Thank you so much for the opportunity Debra... The keynote speakers were motivational. I wish we had fifty Marco Torres' working for FSISD!
Okay, so we didn't win the cruise, but we did come home with some great ideas! Not to mention all the great products in the exhibit hall that we got to preview!
Anybody need a pen?
Guess what...I don't have to keep going back to Debra's email to find this blog. It is now Officially saved with my del.icio.us button. Aren't you all impressed? If you knew how tech challenged I really am, you would be.
Happy Valentine Day!
